XIX GUANAJUATO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2016
CALL FOR ENTRIES
1.-The primary objective of the GUANAJUATO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is to provide more opportunities for the exhibition and appreciation of films, rewarding their quality so as to allow the artists to continue producing. At the same time, we intend to bring together newcomers alongside the industry’s most seasoned professionals, to join forces in a very open, accessible and competitive environment.
2.- THE XIX EDITION OF THE GUANAJUATO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will be celebrated from July 22nd – 31st, 2016, in the cities of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, Gto., México.
3.- CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION. The following categories have been established: SHORT FILM FICTION – SHORT FILM EXPERIMENTAL – SHORT ANIMATION – SHORT DOCUMENTARY – Shorts filmed in any film, video or digital format of up to 30 minutes duration (including credits) that completed production after January 1st, 2015 are eligible. FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY. Documentaries between 30 and 120 minutes of duration, filmed in any film or digital format, that completed production after January 1st, 2015 are eligible. FEATURE FILM FICTION. Feature films by Mexican and International directors in either film or digital formats that have not yet acquired distribution in commercial theaters within Mexico and that completed production after January 1st, 2015 are eligible.
4.- EXHIBITION. The Festival shall determine the order and date of exhibition of each work. Submissions may also be selected to participate in non-competitive programs.
5.- CONDITIONS. A – Registration: cost is $25 USD per film for international productions, payable through WithoutABox.com and festhome.com. Registration is free of cost for Mexican film makers. B- There is no limit to the amount of films that a filmmaker or producer may register. C- The maximum duration of short films is 30 minutes, including credits. D- Music videos, commercial work and political propaganda are not accepted. E- In order to be admitted, the materials must be presented in Spanish, English, or with subtitles in either of these two languages. F- Three DVD copies of each film are required, preferably in NTSC format. These copies shall not be returned. Alternatively, online screeners can be submitted through WithoutABox.com and festhome.com G- When submitting your film, it is mandatory to also submit an “Electronic Press Kit” that can be emailed to
presskit@guanajuatofilmfestival.com including the following information:
- Still photo from the film (Color at 300 dpi, jpg or tif format)
- Synopsis of the film (in Spanish and English if available or either of the two languages)
- Brief Biography of the Director (in Spanish and English if available or either of the two languages)
- Director’s Photograph (Color at 300 dpi, jpg or tif format)
- Film Credits
H- The deadline for registration and delivery of materials is April 1st, 2016. I- All shipping expenses of participating works, from their place of origin to the address of this organization, shall be paid exclusively by the participant. The Festival will not be responsible for the cost of receiving any additional materials. J- Once a film has been submitted for participation it cannot be withdrawn. K- The Festival does not pay screening fees. L – Films in GIFF’s Official Selection will be viewable in the GIFF Digital Film Library, accessible to Industry professionals throughout the duration of the Festival and available to be viewed privately on a secure server by jury members, film festival programmers, critics, buyers and distributors during and after the event. The contact information for each corresponding producer or rights holder will be published.
M– Selected films may form part of the festival’s travelling showcases, participating around the world.
6.- SELECTION AND JURY. The selection of the films will be the responsibility of the Festival Organization by means of an International Jury, made up of film industry professionals, whose names shall be announced shortly before the Festival. The jury’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.
7.- AWARDS. The Guanajuato International Film Festival shall give each of the participants selected for competition during the festival a diploma. The winners shall receive either cash awards or materials prizes granted by our sponsors (film, developing services, transfer services, equipment rental for additional filming) and trophies.
8.- ACADEMY AWARDS QUALIFICATION. Recipients of the festival’s prizes in the categories of Short Fiction and Short Animation will qualify for consideration in the Short Film categories of the Annual Academy Awards® provided the film complies with the Academy rules. As a BAFTA recognized film festival, all films accepted to the Guanajuato International Film Festival qualify to be considered for the Orange British Academy Short Film Awards.
