In its 21st edition, the Guanajuato International Film Festival reaffirms its commitment to film and its development creating a brand-new space for encounter, discussion, promotion and formation for critics and lovers of cinema.
Starting this Saturday, July 21 in San Miguel de Allende, El Fin de la Crítica, which brings together the experiences of professionals and film buffs in a cycle of discussion forums, conferences and workshops. GIFF is gambling on— in coordination with several institutions and industry professionals— building new talents for the next generation of film critics.
From 09:30 to 10:00 hrs, we will welcome the participants to this first edition of “El Fin de la Crítica”. From 10:00 to 11:30, the panel on Film Criticism and the Irruption of Digital Platforms will take place with Leonardo García Tsao, Rafael Aviña, Carlos Bonfil, Jesús Chavarría, Arturo Aguilar and Sonia Riquer.
Afterwards, at 11:30, panelists Carlos Bonfil, Sonia Riquer, Fernanda Solórzano and Luis Tovar will discuss the interference of comercial interests in this profesional exercise in the forum on Journalistic Ethics in Film Criticism. From 13:00 to 14:30 there will be a conversation on the business potential of film criticism: Film Criticism, Does It Sell?.
Tomorrow Sunday will continue the cycle of conferences, while Monday and Tuesday will take place a series of workshops around the profession. The events of “El Fin de la Crítica” will take place at Centro Cultural “El Nigromante”, in San Miguel de Allende.
To revive the collective praxis that was achieved in movie clubs, this encounter seeks to guarantee that Mexican film criticism doesn’t become extinct, perpetuating its place in the public consciousness and seeking to assimilate the always shifting face of the film industry through thought, analysis, vision and the independent voice that characterizes the job of the film critic.
