[eltdf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”” background_color=””]T[/eltdf_dropcaps]hey say time rules all… With two decades of existence, the Guanajuato International Film Festival is proud to be the carrier of the visions of thousands of filmmakers that have furrowed GIFF’s screens with films that go beyond geographic and conceptual borders.
The short film is fundamentally also a product of time. At the dawn of GIFF, the “Expresión en Corto” festival rose as an alternative to the feature film, exhibiting the momentum and work young talents willing to break into the then ill-fated national cinema. Giving great value to creative freedom, short films became an important element in forging a new generation of filmmakers, actors, producers, writers, technicians and audiences.
With the years came natural growth. Short films turned into feature films, incubators, documentaries; excellent sceneries for young actors and countless screenplays that would multiply with each edition, making a festival claimed a standout place in the history of cinema from its inception. In this way, Expresión en Corto reached maturity and became committed to a greater outreach in the progression of the national film industry, now named the Guanajuato International Film Festival, thus framing its significant inclusion in world cinema.
Ever since, the vision of GIFF lies in the importance of renewal, applying new strategies; in its commitment to reaching new audiences, adopting all existing technologies and essentially visualizing every sphere that engulfs the maximum potential of cinematic creation.
The passage of time is relative in cinema, but fundamental in life… Twenty years away from our first steps, our energy remains intact. May this edition of GIFF be a deep gratitude to all the people who in this time have made this cinematic celebration possible; may it also be a new breath to yell even more loudly More Cinema Please!
