The curtain opens with GIFF’s inaugural gala
The cities of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato will be filled with cinema for the 22nd edition of the Guanajuato International Film Festival, a festival of art and culture that opens its doors this Friday, July 19, and its first main event is the inaugural Red Carpet at the Main Garden starting at 8:10 p.m. and the Angela Peralta Theater in San Miguel de Allende at 9:00 p.m.
The Angela Peralta Theater will host a screening of the Chinese film To Live To Sing, a colorful drama about a small Sichuan opera company who live and work together in a ramshackle theater outside of Chengdu, China. When he receives a demolition notice for the theater, Zhao Li (the director of the company) hides it from the others fearing that this could spell the end of the family he had made with this company.
In addition, the Mexican feature film Almacenados will be screened at the Main Garden as part of our tribute to prominent Mexican actor Juan Carlos Ruiz. This film by Jack Zagha tells the story of a former warehouse employee who has to train the young man who will replace him in a job very similar to purgatory.
As it happens every year, GIFF presents a large Official Selection that includes short films and feature films from Guanajuato, Mexico and the world: films of the highest quality in formats such as fiction, animation, documentary and experimental cinema.
This festival of cinema opens its doors for all fans, the public and the industry personalities that will join us.
