Music + Cinema: Purple Rain + The Man Who Fell to Earth

Two of the greatest musical icons who also had their hand in cinema have left us this year and GIFF will pay tribute to them by screening two films they starred in.
Directed by Albert Magnoli and starring Prince, Purple Rain tells the story of “The Kid”, a poor musician with a turbulent family life who seeks refuge in his music and his relationship with the singer Apollonia, who he also mistreats.
The Man Who Fell to Earth stars David Bowie and is directed by Nicolas Roeg. The film is planted within our theme of Utopia and tells the story of an alien in human form who arrives to Earth looking to find water for his planet which is now going through a drought.
