After receiving the Silver Cross of the Guanajuato International Film Festival, last night at the Teatro Juárez, the acclaimed German filmmaker Fatih Akın and Oscar-winning Art Director Brigitte Broch are ready to dictate their Masterclasses today, where they will give traces of the dawn of his work in cinema to the accents and most representative chapters of their successful careers.
On this road to complexity that enhances every story, Broch is a woman who dreams up and builds those nuanced sets and conditions for big productions like a puzzle. These productions include: Amores perros (2000), Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (1999) and Moulin Rouge! (2001) for which she won the Oscar for Best Art Direction. Yes, the space inhabited on the set isn’t necessarily the same one during filming. The one who designs makes the fiction, the textures and the timing feasible; transforming a creative idea into technical information that guides everybody’s job. In the end you conceive of the sky and the walls, the furniture and the horizons, the space and its multiple tenors.
Brigitte Broch will be offering her lecture at 11:00 hrs, at the Mesón de San Antonio, located at Calle de Alonso No.12 where she will invite us to her personal universe, sharing the most relevant episodes of her life and her adventures among the multiple scenarios she has inhabited.
In turn, Fatih Akın is an intercultural reference, a crucial character in German cinema thanks to his unique vision on social issues and his versatility when putting a story on celluloid. He displays longing, decadence and fortune to perfection, as well as the thunderous atmosphere that engulfs immigration, differences and generational clashes in our daily globalized lives. His roots and the multicultural field in which he was brought up give Fatih Akin the keys to embark upon stories about radical collisions, be it in terms of social distances and dramatic sphere that these imply, or his evident interest in portraying outsiders, those with nothing, who find themselves excluded from all common roads and anxious for an encounter that will satisfy their distant and banal.
Do not miss this Masterclass by one of the most prolific contemporary filmmakers of his generation. The appointment is at 4:00 pm, at the Teatro Cervantes.
