Film is a medium that seeks to preserve time and its images. The substratum it’s done in must be taken into consideration at the moment of storing the memory of film. The disintegration of film archives continues to be a reality in our era of digital support. Fire and chemical instability are no longer the enemies they used to be, but digital archives are susceptible to corruption. The passage of time degenerates stored information and measures must be taken to prevent it.
Committed to film in all its areas, included conservation of film archives, GIFF brings a conference on Preserving Film Archives, given by representatives of Labo Digital, Seagate / LaCie, Filmoteca UNAM, IMCINE, FICG and Cineteca Nacional.
This relevant space is open for all different mediums of preservation of existing film archives, among them digital coding where data is stored as high resolution QR codes. The intention is to prevent the loss of film material and to figure out new long-term solutions for digital preservation.
This will take place at from 10:00 to 13:00 hrs at Mesón de San Antonio.
