Elix Chavez and the Light and Strength delight the GIFF audience
Yesterday afternoon, during the third day of music at the Guanajuato International Film Festival, a large audience of all ages gathered in the Main Garden to enjoy two bands led by women with great artistic careers who may be very different, but they all had the charisma and the sound quality to keep audiences singing and dancing from beginning to end despite the weather.
First up was Elix Chávez, a composer and performer from Celaya who, accompanied by the Voces de México Mariachi band, delighted us with their extensive vocal register capable of delivering the most emblematic themes of Mexican ranchero and traditional songs, and even Italian opera with mariachi arrangements, in a splendid way. This concert also paid a well-deserved tribute to the great musicians and performers who have significantly influenced the singer’s artistic formation.
The second show was a band called The Light and Strength of Mexico City, which used flashy costumes, flickering lights, corrosive and uninhibited lyrics, and a fun and casual staging to bring the audience to dance on stage – and even in the rain-, under the influence of this musical mix of electronics, cumbia, punk and disco, creating a vigorous sound and, along with Elix Chávez’s show, one of the most applauded MUSIC + FILM presentations that GIFF has witnessed in its twenty-second edition thus far.
