One of the pillars of contemporary Mexican cinema is, without a doubt, the versatile and multi-awarded actor Damián Alcázar. His filmography is made up of more than 60 films, has received tens of awards, both in Mexico and abroad for his long career in film, theater and television, both in Mexico and abroad.
His enormous sensibility allows him to perfectly embody a wide array of recognizable archetypes: the working man, the upstart, the corrupt politician, the drug dealer, the beggar, the gang member and the Middle-Class worker. His meticulous method in elaborating these characters indicates a passion for his work and, above all, a gift for acute observation that allows him to capture the subtle edges of our reality in every character he plays.
Constantly demonstrating his solid preparation as an actor and his strong presence, Damián Alcázar is one of the most endearing faces of Mexican Cinema. He’s always committed to social causes; his career is an example that artistic quality can get along with an awareness of social issues. His stamp is plastered all over our collective memory and his work is the expression of a country that won’t stop embracing its own dark sense of humor.
Alcázar was recently invited to become a member of AMPAS, a huge distinction that makes not only our film industry, but the whole country of Mexico proud.
GIFF is proud to recognize the career of our deserving tributee. The ceremony will begin with a Red Carpet at the iconic Juárez Theater in the city of Guanajuato. This will be followed by the screening of the Colombian film Satanás, starring our tributee and directed by Andrés Baíz. This film is based on events that took place at the Pozzetto restaurant in Bogota, on December 4, 1986, when a Vietnam War veteran massacred several people after murdering his mother and a few more people close to him.
We hope you can join us at this tribute to this endearing Mexican actor whose persistence and sensibility have made him triumph in every scene he’s been on and win a place in our collective imaginaries. Be there at 20:00 hrs.
