[eltdf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”” background_color=””]T[/eltdf_dropcaps]he Guanajuato International Film Festival launches its screenings officially with the premiere of Mr. Pig, directed by Diego Luna and starring Danny Glover, Maya Rudolph and José María Yazpik. The film will screen tonight at 21:00 hrs at the Main Garden in San Miguel de Allende.
Ambrose Eubanks (Danny Glover), an old-fashioned California pig farmer leaves his already foreclosed farm and goes on a road trip to Mexico with Howard, his last beloved and very large pig. Ambrose must smuggle Howard across the border to find him a new home. As he begins his journey through Mexico, his alcoholism and deteriorating health begin to take their toll and get in the way of his plans. His estranged daughter Eunice (Maya Rudolph) shows up suddenly to join the ride. Pushed by strong convictions and stuck in his old ways, Ambrose won’t quit in his journey to find Howard the home he deserves and maybe even work on the relationships that matter the most.
Director Diego Luna faces the old and the new in an era of global markets, agricultural plants and disposable relationships. Luna’s authentic cinematic postcard that rolls along with an old-fashioned rock n’ roll soundtrack, is cinematically lyrical as it follows the beautiful, winding and ever growing roads of Mexico. Luna trusts his audience, allowing the story to unwrap in a bold manner without exposition, bringing masterful performances out of Glover, Rudolph and of course, Howard the pig.
