This year the renowned Mexican actress Adriana Barraza receives a National Tribute for her 50 uninterrupted years of artistic career. During these years, Adriana Barraza has been a teacher and professional in film, theater and television, becoming a prominent presence in international productions. In this Masterclass, Adriana Barraza will share her life experiences and her accumulated knowledge during this half century of experience that the Guanajuato International Film Festival is honored to celebrate during its twenty-fifth anniversary celebrations.

Women in Film and Television pays tribute this year to two great presences of Mexican cinema. They are actress Blanca Guerra and producer Mónica Lozano. Blanca Guerra has been one of the most recognized actresses in Mexico’s film industry for several decades, while Mónica Lozano is a producer who, through tireless work, has become one of the foundations on which the audiovisual industry is built. in Mexico. Both will share a talk after their tribute in which they will discuss experiences and accumulated learning.

As part of the celebrations for the first quarter of a century of the Guanajuato International Film Festival, we are proud to announce the editorial presentation of the compilation book GIFF: 25 years. It contains a complete journey through the vast history of this festival, from its early years as Expression in Short until today. Anecdotes, characters, photographs and a lot of history make up the volume that we will present within this edition.

CFGTO: Generating optimal productions in destinations

The social vocation that distinguishes the Guanajuato International Film Festival has led it to add more than 10 years striving against gender violence in all its expressions. In the silver edition for its 25th anniversary, GIFF launches, in partnership with the State Health Ministry, the campaign Zero Violence Against Women, which aims to attack the violence that affects us all through the dissemination of information for prevention of risk behaviors. This time the campaign is presented by the young Mexican actress Paulina Goto.

In 1998, exactly 25 years ago, the Guanajuato International Film Festival emerged in San Miguel de Allende. In its first stage under the name Expression in Short, the festival fought to create better conditions for Mexican cinema and its work revolutionized the filmmaking ways in this country. In this conference we will have an intimate meeting between the public, participants, filmmakers and talents who have participated or have been trained in the Festival.

iDigital: Virtual Production Beyond Borders

Gabriel Reyes will talk to us about the opportunities for film production in computer generated environments and his relationship with Hollywood through the creation of the Borderless Content Laboratory, which promotes creative exchange between California and Baja California.

Gabriel Reyes García, CEO of iDigital Groups and Zona Tijuanense, has been a promoter of innovation in marketing, film and communication in the region. It has been a pioneer in animation and digital production since 1990 and has received various awards in his carrer: five Golden Flames from the Northwest National Advertising Association, acceptance into the Short Film Corner at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, recognition in Uruguay for the project of TV Tijuana among some others. He co-created the Sports Cluster of Mexico in association with Alazraki Network. He has recently innovated with Transmedia concepts as the axis of Digital Marketing. He is an EPK producer for AMC responsible for producing additional marketing content for the Fear the Walking Dead series. He’s the creator of the Borderless Content Laboratory.

EFD: an Introduction to Visual Production

Equipment Film and Design (EFD) representative Jorge Rodiles will present his official foray into virtual production by offering comprehensive solutions for the construction of virtual production forums, as well as the discovery of this new production flow with virtual environments for filmmaking .

He has been working as a professional artist for 15 years in film, television and video games. He recently collaborated in the movie Max and Me at Imagica Studios as a 3d Generalist, involving different areas and tasks. He also participated in a 3D Game Simulation for training the staff in the Mexican CFE (Federal Commission of Electicity). His role there was to teach them how to use Maya software and develop all the models and animations inside the simulator and along the way creating and implementing new tools to enhance the user experience for this task. 

Unreal Engine: Environments for Virtual Production

Martina Santoro, Unreal Engine evangelist, will share Epic Games’ experience in driving the film industry forward using virtual production and the real-time rendering power of Unreal Engine, as well as the business opportunities presented in this new aspect of film production.

With a background in animation production, she founded Okam Studio in 2010 and worked in the local community before becoming President of the Argentinean Game Developers Association and later one of the founders of the Latam Video Games Federation. She is Head of the Animation and Interactivity Career at Universidad del Cine. She was Editor-in-Chief of Inside Games Latam and now works as an Evangelist for Unreal Engine at Epic Games, engaging with developer and animation teams, broadcast, enterprise and education partners in the Americas and around the world.
