The legendary American director shares his experiences at GIFF 2019
As part of the tribute that the Guanajuato International Film Festival pays to American filmmaker Gus Van Sant, we invite you to a Master Class that will take place on Sunday, July 21st, at 1:00 p.m. at the majestic Ángela Peralta Theater San Miguel de Allende.
As the auteur of such memorable films such as Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting, Finding Forrester, Milk and Elephant, Gus Van Sant has had a standout career due to the precision of his gaze, which seeks to cut through the center of areas marginalized by conventions of society using a sharp emotional knife. His eccentric and often alienated characters offer us an empathetic portrait of what it means to be alone in a world that can react with incomprehension or downright hostility towards what is different.
Also considered a Master of “queer” cinema, Gus Van Sant is above everything, a filmmaker who strives for independent cinema that is creatively free from the scrutiny of large studios. His films, always searching for the peculiar, could only be made in this way. This has not, however, denied him the possibility of commercial success or numerous industry awards.
We invite you to listen to participate in this master class given by a unique auteur,, whose presence in our city is an opportunity to extend our horizon and understanding of film.
