The MexiCannes GIFF Summer Residency Program has become one of the most relevant spaces for international exchange between the new promises of world cinema. During the eleven years of a wide relationship between the Guanajuato International Film Festival and La Cinéfondation from the Cannes Film Festival, a dozen filmmakers are selected (six from October to February, six from February to July) who are developing their feature debuts for a creative retreat to work on their projects.
MexiCannes offers this space to meet with producers, distributors and international film industry institutions with the intention of helping them to achieve their production goals, offering private consultations with renowned figures of world cinema such as Fatih Akin, Brigitte Broch, Stephen Goldblatt, Spike Lee, Danny Boyle, Darren Aronofsky and Alejandro González Iñárritu, all of whom have been paid tribute to at GIFF.
This year the festival features Betzabé García, Irving Uribe Nares, Mounia Akl, Antonieta Alamat Kusijanovic, Sharon Angelhart and Juan Sebastián Mes, whom besides participating in the residency, will present the Special Showing of the same name where short films such as Entre Luces, Into the blue, S’chiya Leylit, Submarine, The girl with two heads and Tierra mojada will take place.
Don’t miss the Special Screening of Mexicannes today at 18:00 hrs at Centro Cultural el Nigromante Bellas Artes in San Miguel de Allende, and tomorrow, Wednesday July 25 at 16:00 hrs at Cinemex Pozuelos, Guanajuato.
