One of the special events surrounding Lebanon, our Spotlight Country, is the Master Class lead by renowned director Ghassan Salhab, awarded last night with the Silver Cross by the Guanajuato International Film Festival.
His films include such memorable work as Phantom Beirut, Terra Incognita and The Valley, his filmography offers a unique narrative style grounded firmly in observation of his environment. Beirut is not just a background, but one more protagonist that participates in the tone and the themes presented. Situations such as the tragedy of war, the isolation and the search for identity populate a work marked by sensibility.
This filmmaker’s work is marked by multiculturalism and it sets its enormously valuable eye on the conflicts of a nation profoundly damaged by sectarianism. His capacity for invention and the playful mood with which he handles narrative structures offers intelligent questions on ever-present themes such as identity, geography and fugacity, while trying to renovate all forms of expression.
We invite you to listen to this master conference by the Lebanese filmmaker who has been built up by multiculturalism and casts a very personal gaze at the human drama that populates his nation and reflect aspects of the human condition that involve everyone.
Don’t miss this Master Class that will take place at 18:30 hrs at Centro Cultural “El Nigromante”, at the center of San Miguel de Allende.
