Movies with Mummy, one of the greatest traditions of of GIFF and a festival favorite took place at midnight among the tombstones and shrines. It was the perfect context for a screening of two classics of Japanese horror cinema.
The night began with Shin’Ya Tsukamoto’s Tetsuo. One of those films that cause strong reactions and little comprehension and you can feel the uneasiness and tension among those attending, and yet they were fascinated by the chaotic framing and the soundtrack filled with screams and other noises.
After the first film ended, the attendees prepared for the second feature, Ringu. Recognized by Western audiences for being re-made into The Ring movies in Hollywood, as well as transforming international horror cinema. Everybody knows the story, so ot was no surprise that every time the phone rang on the screen, everyone got goosebumps.
As dawn drew near, the cemetery closed its doors to conclude the Movies with Mummy program in San Miguel de Allende. However, the chills will continue in Guanajuato City where both of these films will be screened again at Túnel del Sol on Friday July 29 and joining us will be acclaimed director Shin’Ya Tsukamoto, which is why we urge everyone to attend this unmissable event.
