Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco’s latest film \u201cLas hijas de abril (The Daughters of April)\u201d was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section of the 70th Edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which will take place on May 17-28, 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n Franco is no stranger to this festival. His feature debut, \u201cDaniel and Ana\u201d (2009) was screened at the Directors’ Fortnight section which runs parallel to the Festival. In 2012 \u201cDespu\u00e9s de Luc\u00eda (After Lucia)\u201d made the Un Certain Regard section and won their Best Picture prize. In 2015 his film Chronic was recognized in the Official Selection competition by winning the award for Best Screenplay. <\/span><\/p>\n Franco has been an important part of GIFF. The Mexican writer\/director\/producer is an example of what the MexiCannes program has achieved through the alliance between GIFF and Cin\u00e9fondation R\u00e9sidence. During his stay in Paris during that residence in 2009, he developed “Despu\u00e9s de Luc\u00eda” and then returned to GIFF in 2010 to pitch this film at the International Pitching Market, where Lemon Films picked it up for production.
