{"id":13685,"date":"2016-07-18T19:54:32","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T19:54:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.giff.mx\/?p=13685"},"modified":"2016-07-18T19:58:51","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T19:58:51","slug":"mexican-official-selections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/giff.mx\/en\/mexican-official-selections\/","title":{"rendered":"Mexican Official Selections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221; images=&#8221;12437,12438,12439,12440&#8243; img_size=&#8221;298&#215;298&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;60px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Guanajuato International Film Festival presents its Official Selection of Mexican Features, Mexican Documentary Features and Mexican Short Films<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>GIFF received more than 3,500 films in competition from 122 countries, which guarantees a global vision of international cinema today.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;60px&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\"><strong>San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato July 8th 2016.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">Committed to supporting and promoting Mexican cinema, the Guanajuato International Film Festival announces the films that make up our <strong>Mexican Official Selections <\/strong>during its 19th edition, which will take place on July 22-31 en San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato City.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">We received more than 3500 films from 122 countries in our call for entires which closed on April 1<sup>st<\/sup>. Among the selection there are 70 Mexican films that will be screened throughout the festival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\"><strong>The Mexican Feature Official Selection <\/strong>is made up of six of the best films in our national filmography that reflect the visions of Mexican filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">Marcelino Islas, whose debut \u201cMartha\u201d premiered at the 13th edition of GIFF, returns with \u201cLa Caridad (Charity)\u201d; a drama about a 30-year marriage that faces the husband\u2019s recent h\u00e1ndicap stemming from a car accident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">Yulene Olaizola and Ruben Imaz, both winners in previous editions of GIFF, present \u201cEpitafio (Epitaph)\u201d. Set in the year 1519, the film is about three Spanish conquistadors from Hern\u00e1n Cort\u00e9s\u2019 army who try to reach the summit of Popocat\u00e9petl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">\u201cSopladora de Hojas (Leaf Blower)\u201d is the feature debut of Mexican director Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez Mendiz\u00e1bal. Three young men are tasked with finding a set of keys that they lost in a pile of dry leaves in the park. What they don\u2019t realize is that this apparently simple task could bring them face-to-face with their fears, turn their afternoon into an odyssey and change their lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">\u201cMaquinar\u00eda Panamericana (Panamerican Machinery)\u201d, directed by Joaqu\u00edn del Paso, is a Mexican-Polish co-production that participated in the 17th edition of GIFF as part of the Bilateral Forum of these two countries. Shot in 35mm and premiering in the 67th edition of Berlinale, is now a part of our competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">\u201cGringo\u201d, by Jos\u00e9 Luis Sol\u00eds, shot on film, tells a story of daily violence for a family who lives in a Mexican border town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">Finally \u201cDistancias Cortas (Walking Distance)\u201d, Alejandro Guzm\u00e1n\u2019s feature film debut, tells the story of Federico who, after 10 years of not leaving his house, discovers his passion for seeing the outside world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">As part of the <strong>Feature Documentary <\/strong>selection we present:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">\u201cPlaza de la Soledad\u201d, directed by noted photographer Maya Goded and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival; it tells the intimate stories of several women who have dedicated their lives to prostitution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 90px;\">\u201cResurrecci\u00f3n\u201d by Eugenio Polgovsky, tells the story of the Salto de Juanacatl\u00e1n waterfalls; a place that was once one of the main tourist attractions in Mexico, but is now one of the most contaminated rivers in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\">\u201cEl Charro de Toluquilla\u201d by Jos\u00e9 Villalobos tells the story of Jaime Garc\u00eda, a singer who is HIV positive. \u201cEl Chico de Oklahoma\u201d, by Julio Carlos Ramos, takes us into the life of Ando McLauchlin, a plastic artista that established an art gallery in the middle of the desert.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe Weekend Sailor\u201d by Bernardo Arsuaga presents Ram\u00f3n Carlin and his story: an inexperienced Mexican sailor who in 1973 won an around-the-world yacht competition against all odds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px; text-align: justify;\">\u201cLa Selva Negra\u201d by Charles Fairbanks and Saul Kak, which recently premiered at Visions du R\u00e9el, showcases modern life in the Mexican jungle. Finally, \u201cLa Laguna\u201d by Aaron Schock, which premiered and was awarded at the Hot Docs festival. Both will have their Mexican premiere during the 19<sup>th<\/sup> edition of GIFF<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">Among the <strong>Mexican Short Film Selection<\/strong> are the best in fiction, animation and documentary shorts.
